Bridge Water House, Nelson

Footprint Design have been instructed to add an extension to a commercial/ office building located in Nelson.

Existing structure mainly consists of white stone with varying angles of pitched roofs and a flat roof entrance. The entrance is curved, glazed and rendered which is very much dated.

The first step was to remove the existing entrance, which allows the development to maximise its potential.
Designed extension “fills up” the “missing chunk” of the building where the entrance used to be, by aligning the plan to the shape of a square.

Pushing back the ground floor creates a modern, sheltered area that directs the users and visitors to a designated entrance point. Adjusting the roof angle creates a new dynamic and makes the whole building more contemporary.
